Management Team

W. Fred Kloots, Jr.

Fred is the president and CEO of Leonard Insurance Services. He began his insurance career in 1970 with Hartford Insurance Company in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1975, he accepted a sales position with Leonard and was elected president of the agency in 1998.

As CEO, Fred manages the agency, while still maintaining a large client base.

Richard K. Martindale

Rick is chairman of Leonard Insurance Services, bringing more than 35 years of insurance experience to the agency’s management team. He joined the agency in 1981 as a producer and senior vice president.

In addition to Rick's management responsibilities, he maintains a large client base consisting of various manufacturing and contracting accounts.

W. Todd Witham

Todd is senior vice president and secretary of Leonard Insurance Services, with more than 35 years of experience in the insurance industry. He focuses on agency insurance sales, as well as maintaining a large client base of commercial lines accounts. He is an alumnus of Westminster College, where he received his Bachelor of Arts.

Todd has been actively involved with a number of professional and community organizations. He is currently the chairman of Camp Tippecanoe and a member of the Palace Theater Association Board. He previously served as a trustee of the Independent Insurance Agents Association, chairman of the Canton Red Cross, chairman and treasurer of the Stark County YMCA, and is a past member of the Canton Jaycees, Canton Rotary and Board of Managers at Camp Tippecanoe.

Gerald L. Staten

Gerald is a senior vice president at Leonard Insurance Services with more than 38 years of experience in the insurance industry. Since joining the agency in 1979, he has specialized in employee benefits consulting and sales, including employee benefit plans and corporate and personal life Insurance.

He is a 1971 graduate of Otterbein College, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics. Gerald also maintains designations as a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).

Marlene E. McLendon

Marlene is the treasurer for Leonard Insurance Services and is responsible for maintaining all accounting information for the agency. Prior to joining the Leonard team in 1990, she worked at American Heritage Life in Jacksonville, Florida as a senior group billing manager.

Marlene has been a volunteer for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrines Dinner for the past 13 years.

Marsha Dunn

Marsha Dunn is vice president of agency operations at Leonard Insurance Services. She is responsible for the agency’s overall operations including automation and human resources. She has been with the agency since 1981, holding previous positions as a general office assistant, account manager and commercial lines supervisor.

Marsha has a broad insurance background, which includes detailed knowledge of all commercial coverage applications and a strong overview of personal lines and employee benefits. She currently maintains the designations of Certified Professional Service Representative (CPSR), Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR) and Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC).

David M. Baloun

David is a vice president at Leonard Insurance Services and has been a part of the agency team since 1988. With more than 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, he brings exceptional knowledge to the agency’s insurance sales and services.

He is a 1975 graduate of Miami University and an active member of his community. David is on the Board of Directors for the Northeast Community Center and Trillium Family Solutions. He is also involved with the United Way, Rotary Club of Canton, Family Services Fundraiser, Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges annual Campaign and is a Pro Football Hall of Fame Festival Volunteer.

Paul E. Cruciani

Paul is a vice president at Leonard Insurance Services, with more than 20 years experience in the insurance and bond industry. Prior to joining the agency in 1991, he was a bond underwriter for Aetna Insurance and Fidelity and Deposit Company. He specializes in bonding and insurance for the construction industry.

Paul is actively involved with a number of community organizations. He is a member of the Canton Rotary and the Heritage Christian School Board, and the treasurer for the Builders Exchange of North Central, Ohio.

Kim A. DeGiralomo

Kim is a vice president at Leonard Insurance Services, bringing with him more than 20 years of experience in the insurance industry. Prior to joining the agency in 1989, he was a marketing manager for Westfield Companies.

He holds the designation of Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and specializes in accounts relating to home builders, retail grocery, and architects and engineers.

Darren J. Faye

Darren is a vice president and risk analyst at Leonard and has been a member of the agency team since 1998. He serves as Risk Manager for contractors, health care facilities, manufacturers and professional service firms, and specializes in technology and cyber liability. He has also developed a national insurance program for the property preservation industry (www.preservationins.com) and has over 500 companies across the country that participate in the program.

He earned a BSIT degree in Information Systems Security and Enterprise Risk Management. He is also a graduate of Leadership Stark County and holds the designations of Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and Construction Risk Insurance Specialist (CRIS).

Darren is an active member of the Associated Risk Managers and the National Alliance of Insurance Education and Research. He serves his community as treasurer of the Executive Board of Trustees for Leadership Stark County, and is a sub-chair for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival Ribs Burnoff.

John D. Fink

John is a vice president at Leonard Insurance Services and has been a member of the Leonard Insurance Services team since 1987. Bringing 23 years of experience in insurance, he specializes in professional and product liability, crane and automotive-related accounts, and is a commercial lines producer, client advocate and trusted advisor.

He is a 1987 graduate of the College of Wooster, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree. John volunteers at 91.3 The Summit, coaches for Revere youth football and baseball and is involved with the Ohio Restaurant Association.

Lee W. Framer

Lee is a senior vice president at Leonard Insurance Services, with 33 years of experience in the insurance industry. He has a diverse background in accounting, business ownership and law, and specializes in financial planning and employee benefits. This knowledge aids him in delivering tailored programs and advising to company owners and executives.

He received a Bachelor of Science in accounting in 1974, a Doctorate of Jurisprudence in 1977, and currently maintains designation as an Investment Advisor Representative (IAR).

Lee has given back to his community by serving on the Summit County Board of the Court Appointment Special Advocates (CASA), which provides local children with a trained community volunteer to advocate for the child's best interest as they enter the court system as a result of allegations of abuse, neglect or dependency.

Dave is a vice president at Leonard Insurance Services and has been with the agency since 1983 when he joined as a commercial lines producer. Prior to joining the Leonard team, he spent seven years as a manager with Atlantic Companies.

He maintains the designation of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and works with a variety of clients in the moving and storage industry, third party logistics and retail jewelers.

Douglas R. Malcolm

Doug is a Vice President at Leonard Insurance Services and has been with the agency since 2002. Prior to joining the agency, he owned and managed the Malcolm Insurance Group in North Canton. Doug is a commercial lines specialist and works with a broad range of clients including Public School districts, manufacturers, wholesalers and professional service companies. In addition, Doug has been endorsed by several national associations to provide professional liability insurance to their members nationwide

Doug received his B.S. in Business Administration and his MBA in Finance from The Ohio State University.  He also holds the designation of Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC).

Doug has served for many years on the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Committee and is a past Treasurer of the Glenmoor Homeowner’s Association.

Linda A. Mazzaferri

Linda is an account executive at Leonard Insurance Services, bringing more than 30 years of experience in the insurance industry. Since joining the agency in 2001, she has worked with a broad spectrum of commercial and personal insurance clients.

She specializes in agribusiness and farm, with an emphasis on horse related operations, life science and technology operations, new ventures and difficult-to-place coverage. Linda also holds an Agribusiness and Farm Insurance Specialist designation.

Carly

Carly Mussey-Widener

Carly is an account executive at Leonard Insurance Services having been in the insurance industry since 1995.  Prior to joining the agency in 2007, she was an agent in Arkansas handling commercial and personal lines insurance.  Carly works with new clients and manages a client base of various business types including contractors, manufacturers, non-profit, social services organizations and trucking risks.

Carly is a member of National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) and is currently working toward her Certified Risk Manager designation.  She welcomes the opportunity to work with new and established businesses that desire a proactive insurance professional.

Todd Rohrer

Todd is an account executive at Leonard Insurance Services. He joined the agency in 2009, bringing with him more than 20 years of insurance and investment business experience. He specializes in group benefits, including partially self-funded health plans and pension planning.

He is an alumnus of Stark State College of Technology, where he studied sales and marketing, as well as a graduate of the Leadership Stark County Alumni 14th Class. Todd is also a Life/Accident and Health/Variable Products, Securities License Series 6 and LEAP licensed agent.

As an active member of his community, Todd is chairman of the Jackson Community Celebration, coach and board member of both the Jackson Youth Football League and Jackson Youth Basketball Association, member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Security Committee and the past president of the Belden Village Kiwanis Club

J. Perry Schlabach

Perry is a vice president and employee benefits specialist at Leonard Insurance Services. He works closely with business owners and executives to develop, implement and administer employee benefit programs for more than 60 businesses and organizations.

In 1996, Perry graduated with honors from Kent State University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in business administration and finance. He holds a designation as a Registered Health Underwriter (RHU).

He is an active member of the Greater Akron Chamber, and previously served as chairman for the Lake Township Chamber of Commerce Board. He was also a member of the Hartville Church of the Brethren church ministry committee.

Karl J. Schwenk

Karl is an account executive at Leonard Insurance Services in the employee benefits consulting department, and is responsible for attracting new clients, as well as retaining and managing existing relationships. Prior to joining the agency in 2007, he worked with an international equipment designer and manufacturer that had businesses headquarters in both the United States and abroad.

He is a graduate of Walsh University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting and finance. He also received his Masters in Business Administration from Malone University and is a licensed producer for accident, health and life insurance, as well as variable annuities.

Karl is a certified Registered Health Underwriter (RHU) and is currently working toward his Certificate Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) through Wharton School of Business.

Josef C. Skemp

Joe is a vice president at Leonard Insurance Services with more than 26 years of insurance experience. He specializes in commercial accounts dealing with oil and gas risks, construction, trucking and non-profit organizations.

An alumnus of Ohio Northern University, Joe graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts in business administration. In 1989 he purchased Dreyer/Skemp Insurance and later merged the agency with Leonard Insurance Services in 1995.

Joe is a member of the Ohio Oil & Gas Association and the Ohio Trucking Association.

Jon D. Smith

Jon is a vice president of Leonard Insurance Services.  He joined the agency in 1997 and was previously the account executive of the life and health department focusing on group life, health, dental, disability, individual life and disability, long-term care and 401K.

As vice president, Jon is responsible for acquiring and retaining key accounts for Leonard Insurance, and production and renewal of business.

He is an active member of his community, serves as the vice chair for YMCA of Central Stark County, and is a board member for Friends of the Children's Network, Walsh University Advisory Board and YMCA Camp Tippecanoe. Previously he served as president of Canton Jaycees, vice president for Big Brother Big Sisters of Canton, and was a member of the Hall of Fame Ribs Burnoff Beverage and Volunteers Committee.

J. Randy Stenhouse

Randy is a vice president at Leonard Insurance Services, with 29 years of insurance experience in commercial property and casualty insurance. Since joining Leonard in 1993, Randy has focused on a variety of commercial lines accounts in construction and manufacturing, and has extensive experience in multi-state workers compensation.

He is a 1974 graduate of Bowling Green State University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree.

Clark D. Swisher

Clark is a senior vice president in Leonard Insurance Services student benefits division, with more than 20 years of experience in the insurance industry. Prior to joining the agency, Clark began his career with Nationwide Insurance. He specializes in the field of student health insurance and sports coverages, and provides expert consulting and support for college students and administrators to help simplify the inquiry process and lower overall costs of administration.

He is a graduate of The University of Akron and is an active member of the Hartville Church of the Brethren. Clark also serves on the Boards of Directors for three public companies in Northeastern Ohio.
